The documentary ¡Dolores, guapa! will be the starting point to...

…explore the traditions of Holy Week and Flamenco, reaching out to the divas of pop music, from a queer perspective.

Round table with part of the cast of ¡Dolores, guapa! (2021), such as Jesús Pascual (director), Anto Bonilla (producer), and Jorge Pulgar, where the devotion to religious images, Holy Week and artistic expression will be reviewed, within the LGTBIQ+ collective, relating the connections with the queer diva fandoms.The scenic point of view will come from the Flamenco Queer duo, formed by Rubén Heras and Jero Férec. After watching films like Carmen y Lola or Mi arma, questions to develop and new points of view always arise, and cinema is the prism from which to focus on issues that seem to be opposed. Queer disruption is the backbone of the union of popular fervor, flamenco and pop divas.

Moderated by Oskar Fanjul, an expert in pop myths and dresser of religious images, they will try to respond to the criticism and prejudices that arise in the brotherhoods… and within the LGTBIQ+ collective. What happened to the poster for Holy Week in Seville this year? Can you shout “Yasss Queen” to Madonna and the Virgin of Macarena? Is there space for queer people within brotherhoods and flamenco? In the end you will understand that you can vibrate in a procession and run to have a place in the front row of the next Beyoncé concert.

Speakers

Jesús Pascual

Jesús Pascual, director of the documentary Dolores Guapa

(Alcalá de Guadaíra, 1997). Graduated in Audiovisual Communication in 2019 from the University of Seville. In 2022, he completed the master’s degree in History of Contemporary Art and Visual Culture organized by the Reina Sofía Museum, the UAM and the UCM. In 2019, he premiered the short documentary film Mi arma, selected in more than twenty festivals inside and outside our borders, among which Lesgaicinemad stands out, where he received a Special Mention from the Jury. In 2021, he directed his first feature-length documentary, ¡Dolores, guapa! (Best Film in the Andalusian Panorama section at the Seville European Film Festival and Best Documentary at the Andalesgai festival). In 2023 he won the I Prize for Queer and Crip Theories ‘Sonia Rescalvo’ with his essay Querer como las locas, published by Editorial Cántico.

Jordi Chicletol

Jordi Chicletol (Barcelona, 1985) is a creator of audiovisual content and an expert in pop culture and contemporary phenomena. He currently hosts the television magazine ‘Habitació 910’ on Betevé and co-presents a program on iCat. He has worked with the In-Edit or Moritz Feed Dog festivals and collaborated with brands such as Filmin. Thanks to his activism, he raises his voice on social networks about equality and mental health, also participating as a testimony in La Marató de TV3 in 2021, becoming a reference for the new queer generations of Barcelona.

Flamenco Queer

Rubén Heras, dancer, and Jero Férec, guitarist, from Flamenco Queer.

Flamenco Queer is the result of the work of London guitarist Jero Férec and Badalona dancer Rubén Heras. They recover the confluence of queer and minority communities in flamenco and drag, which took place in the Raval and Poble-sec neighborhoods of Barcelona at the beginning of the 20th century. They highlight intersectional representation both on and off stage, giving visibility to queer artists in both historical and contemporary flamenco culture. They have recently published the album Travestí, which breaks the conventions of flamenco.

Jorge Pulgar

Jorge Pulgar, journalist and disseminator of the Holly Week culture from the LGTBI prism

(Isla Cristina, Huelva, 1990). Journalist and content creator, he has spent half his life in Seville. Almost everything he has written is related to the world of Holy Week and the Brotherhoods and he appeared in the documentary ¡Dolores, guapa! On Twitter (@JPulgarSalgado) he regularly publishes articles about clashes between brotherhoods of little towns in Andalusia and analyses how the Marian images are dressed, while on Instagram (@pulgaris) he shares stories in which he performs his particular version of the North American North American reality show Rupaul’s Drag Race applied to the Sorrowful of Holy Week. He’s fascinated by the most classic and the most bizarre. He is the Miranda Priestly of Holly Week. This is the world in which he has been raised and his diva is María Santísima. For Jorge, “the Esperanza de Triana is the Beyoncé of the Virgins.”

Oskar Fanjul

Oskar Fanjul, expert in pop myths and images of Easter

(Oviedo, 1993). Based in Barcelona since 2018. He is a civil engineer from the University of Oviedo. He has published articles in digital media (El Rescate Musical or Fantastic mag) on cultural and musical news. He directs and presents the podcast “Mitos reconectados”, where he recovers biographies of artists like Sara Montiel or Tino Casal, relating them to current pop hits. He completed a monograph on Elvis Presley at the University of Oviedo (2016). On his Tiktok he reviews the news and secrets of the European royal houses. He has been a self-taught dresser of processional images since he was a child, both in Asturias and Barcelona. Currently, he is in charge of dressing the Mare de Deu dels Dolors, in Arenys de Mar (Barcelona).

The FIRE!! LAB is a laboratory for the development of films and the writing of LGTBI themed series, which seeks to encourage their production and commercialization in Spain. The initiative, which will take place within the framework of the Mostra FIRE!! 2024, will last 3 days, from June 10 to 12, 2024.

The scriptwriters, directors and producers of the selected projects and films will receive advice / tutorials in artistic areas such as script, direction, as well as production, by prominent professionals of the national and international audio-visual industry.

Alejandro Marín

Graduated in 2018 in Direction from the ESCAC (Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya) with the short film Nacho no conduce and the collective feature film La filla d’algú. In 2021 he directs Maricón Perdido, a series created by Bob Pop and awarded with the Ondas Award for Best Comedy Series. After releasing A Christmas with Samantha Hudson, a Christmas special for Atresplayer Premium, he begins preparations for his first solo film. Filmed in Seville and starring Ana Wagener, Omar Banana and Alba Flores, Te estoy amando locamente is part of the beginnings of the Seville LGBTI movement in the midst of the Spanish Transition.

Rocío Mesa

Rocío Mesa combines cinematographic creation with production and programming. Her latest feature film as a director and screenwriter, Secaderos (2022), had its world premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival, winning the Dunia Ayaso Award, and was presented internationally at the prestigious SXSW festival in Austin (Texas) where it won the audience “Visions” award. His first feature film was the creative documentary Orensanz (2013), premiered at the Seville European Film Festival and selected at international festivals such as BAFICI. Mesa practices analogue experimental cinema and her work has been exhibited in museums, galleries and specialty festivals around the world. As a producer she has worked on numerous projects, such as the feature film Mbah Jhiwo / Alma Anciana (2021) by Álvaro Gurrea, premiered at the Berlinale Forum 2021. Rocio Mesa is the director of LA OLA, Independent Films from Spain, an entity that aims to make contemporary Spanish cinema visible in North America. In addition, she has worked as a programmer for festivals such as Los Angeles or international events such as Art House Theater Day in the United States.

Yery Bermúdez

Yery Bermúdez currently works as head of development at Avalon. Throughout his career as a content director in companies such as Filmax or Fasten Films, he has participated in 15 films. Among them, Mediterráneo, winner of 3 Goya Awards and shortlisted to represent Spain at the Oscars; The Permanent Image, Golden Spike for Best Film at Seminci; One for all, Forqué Award for Cinema and Education in Values; or 100 Metres, which managed to attract more than 300,000 spectators to cinemas. In addition, he worked as a script doctor in titles such as Chavalas, Biznaga de Plata Audience Award at the Malaga Festival, and regularly teaches development workshops for CIMA, COOFILM, the Audiovisual Cluster of Catalonia and other institutions.

Guillem Clua

Barcelona, 1973. With a degree in journalism, he began his writing training at the London Guildhall University. He is considered one of the most international and versatile voices of the current national theater. He has extensive experience as a film and television scriptwriter. His film adaptations of The Twisted Rings of God and some of his own works (such as The Flag) stand out, as well as the Netflix series Smiley of which he is the showrunner. He does not hesitate to choose current issues: armed conflicts, climate change, nationalisms… The result is works of high political tension such as The Skin on Fire or The Taste of Ashes, epic dramas (Marburg; Invasion), but also musicals (Killer; 73 reasons to leave you), theatre-dance shows (Death in Venice; In the desert), adaptations of classics (Iliad; La revoltosa) and comedies (Smiley; Above our songs). Many of his pieces have received important recognitions, among which the National Prize for Dramatic Literature 2020 stands out.

Irene Moray

Her career began in 2012, after leaving the studies of Fine Arts and moving to Berlin. There she was part of the performance collective The – – family for three years, with which she performed in various cultural entities throughout Europe, such as the Astrup Fearnley Museum in Oslo or the Chisenhale Gallery in London. During her stay in Berlin she directed her first short fiction, Bad Lesbian. After four years in Germany, she decided to return to Barcelona, where she shot her last short film as a screenwriter and director. Suc de síndria, premiered at Berlinale Shorts, nominated for the EFA Awards and winner of several awards, including the Gaudí for best short film and the Goya for best fiction short film.

Eneko Gutiérrez

Eneko Gutiérrez combines animation production at The Thinklab studio (Deep; Inspector Sun and the Haunting of the Black Widow, both nominated for the Goya for Best Animated Film) with the production of live-action feature films and series at OLD Media. He has recently been producer of series such as El Vecino for Netflix or Sin Huellas for Amazon and, previously, he was delegate producer in blockbusters such as Ahora o Nunca or Anacleto Agente Secreto, among others.

His first feature film, the comedy Niña, saludame a Diego, was a box office success in Venezuela. After settling in Spain, he founded, together with Almudena Monzú, the production company Amor & Lujo, with whom they worked on fiction and documentary projects. From her beginnings at Canal+ through her time at NBC Universal, where she specialized in Social Media while managing the social media campaign for the film La Llamada, by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi; until she arrived at Netflix Spain, where she worked on the campaigns of titles such as Élite, Las Chicas del Cable, Paquita Salas, Nevenka or Sky Rojo.

Victor Sala

Strategies to make your series possible: Map of festivals and markets

Co-founder of the online magazine Serielitzats and Serielitzats Fest, the Barcelona International Series Festival that has invited screenwriters such as Jesse Armstrong (Succession), David Simon (The Wire), Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley) or Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad). He is a series critic for ‘Els Experts’ and ‘SerieSelektor’ on iCat FM.

Since 2022 she has directed the series laboratory Serielizados Kick, teaches television formats at Pompeu Fabra University and coordinates MINIPUT, a quality television show that has been held in Barcelona since 1992. He has written the short film Robota and the television pilot Psycho Palms for the production company Open the Portal, and is an advisor to several production companies.

Lidia Oñate

Distribution LGBT feature films

Degree in Audiovisual Communication from the Pompeu Fabra University and Master’s Direction Network Management and Digital Marketing from Fundeun, University of Alicante. With more than fourteen years of professional experience, she is currently Marketing Director of Filmax, a company that in its 70 years has released more than 700 films in cinemas, which has positioned it as one of the Spanish distributors with the most experience in the market.

Lola Clavo

Introduction to working with intimate scenes from the intimacy coordination

Lola Clavo is a filmmaker, teacher and intimacy coordinator from Barcelona. She specializes in LGBTIQ+ community representations, Kink/BDSM and sex work. She is the privacy coordinator of productions such as La Mesías, Smiley, Nudes, Yo, adicto or La teoría King Kong, among others, and is part of the Calata collective of privacy coordinators SOMA, as well as the driving group of the Department Against Abuse of the Catalan Film Academy. She is also co-founder of RED ICIE and AESCI Spanish Association of Intimacy Coordination Professionals, which has just published the first Guide for the work of intimate scenes in audiovisual fiction.

Rocío Ortiz

Introduction to sustainable filming

Graduated in Environmental Sciences and Master’s Degree in Consulting and Auditing of Quality and Excellence and the Environment. In 2021 she joined Creast for the area of environment and sustainability. In charge of the methodology of the measurements of the Carbon Footprint on the platform, in addition to carrying them out, as well as the preparation of Sustainability Plans. Other functions that she performs together with her department are the search and validation of sustainable solutions and suppliers and offset projects.

She firmly believes in the future possibilities of Spanish cinema, which will necessarily be accompanied by a greater participation of women, both in the artistic and technical fields. Of course, there is also a greater environmental responsibility.
