From June 4 to 14, 2026, the FIRE!! will be seen in person at the French Institute.

The FIRE!! opens at the Institut Français on Thursday 4 June with the feature film Bouchra and closes on Sunday 14 June with the feature film El prado y la luna.

On Sunday 14 at 8 pm, the festival’s First Ventura Pons Prize for best fiction feature film will be presented by the actor Enric Majó.

Sustainability

The FIRE!! It wants to offer a service that is as respectful as possible with the environment and also encourage you to continue applying simple gestures in your daily life for the good of our environment.

The FIRE!! it worked in 2025 with La Tribu Verde, an agency specialized in improving the sustainability of audiovisual productions and events, to further improve their sustainability. The Green Tribe made an in-depth diagnosis of the festival for several weeks, to determine the points where our festival could improve its action. After implementing numerous measures already in the June 2025 edition, the consultancy was closed with the preparation of 3 documents: a Sustainability Plan for the festival, a report on the 2025 edition and a report on areas for improvement.

We have significantly reduced the use of air transport for FIRE!! guests, a mode of transportation that is often the main source of pollution (by far) in film festivals’ carbon footprint calculations. The festival has already set the following goals; we try to:

  • Not use planes, but trains for guests from the rest of Spain or from France.
  • If justifiable, use a maximum of one flight, and always within Europe or an equivalent geographic radius.
  • Give priority to local guests, from Barcelona or Catalonia, and always suggest they travel to Barcelona by train.

We also encourage you to use public transport to get to the festival! It is very easy to get to the French Institute or the LGBTI Centre in this way. Look at the options in the practical information, you will see that the metro, bus, tram and several bike lanes take you there. The French Institute has a bicycle parking lot.

Whenever you can, use public transport and the bike lane! Barcelona is, therefore, a great city.

The festival prints flyers and posters with recycled paper and ecological inks. For a few years now, you may have seen that we no longer print catalogues. You can find all the information (and more) on this website.

The festival’s promotional banners are commissioned from Barcelona City Council, which installs them in a circuit of the city’s streets and avenues, then removes them and recycles them. The giant canvas hung on the façade of the French Institute is then recycled by the same institution. We do not generally install any ephemeral installations on the premises, except for the different roll-ups that are used year after year.

The French Institute does not normally have a catering service. To offer our audience a cozy place to stay, chat with guests and have a drink, we have had the complicity of Berta Fernández, creator of the Las Fernández restaurant and manager of the La Monroe restaurant, of the Filmoteca de Catalunya, for years. Our beloved Berta installs an ephemeral bar and restaurant service on the terrace of the French Institute during the ten days of the festival. Soft drinks, beers and wines are served, as well as an assortment of simple meals that are ready to go: sandwiches, empanadas, nuts, olives, etc. There is, therefore, no cooking or handling of food prepared on site, apart from the basic possibility of heating some pieces with a microwave.

We also have the sponsorship of Moritz, who provides us with beer barrels, tables, parasols and chairs. We don’t buy any furniture.

The bar service is made with cardboard plates and glasses and wooden cutlery and we also try to take advantage of all the unsold meals. All waste from the terrace is systematically taken to the selective containers.

Separating waste, taking it to selective containers and making use of the city’s Green Points is essential for our environment, and I’m sure you’re already doing it super well, come on. We encourage our entourage of friends, family and co-workers to continue doing it more and better!

Apart from the screenings inside the cinema of the French Institute, the festival does not organize activities that involve noise or light pollution. On the terrace of the French Institute there can be music with a low volume and, in any case, not outside the established hours. If you also think that the music is too loud, do not hesitate to tell us!

Nor are projectors or intense lights placed there, except for some luminous and decorative garland, at the level of the bar, and of very low intensity. If you still think we can improve, let us know!

Oh, and movies, of course… When we work on film selection, we only view the titles we request or are sent to us through online screeners: we haven’t received physical copies (DVD, Blu-ray, or USB flash drive) for years now, and we clearly specify in our rules that we don’t accept screeners that aren’t sent online.

As for the projection copies, we now receive them almost always with high-power online download systems. The sending of physical copies to hard drives (perhaps a couple every year) has remained very residual, leaving courier costs and the corresponding possible carbon footprint at minimum levels, particularly if the transport is by air.

Like us, you probably regularly use VOD platforms to watch movies and series, which are a clear saving compared to the use of physical copies (Blu Rays, DVDs, etc.). But our carbon footprint in the digital world is on the rise and we need to keep an eye on the amount of data we accumulate in the cloud on a daily basis. To do this, we must remove documents that we no longer use, in particular photos and videos that take up a lot of space. Or clean up our emails regularly, try to limit the use of Gifs and also be aware of everything we can put on social networks!

The VENTURA PONS AWARD of the festival, with an endowment of € 2,000, to:

  • Best Feature Film
Ventura Pons Award at the FIRE!! to Best LGTBIQ+ Feature Film

This award aims to pay tribute to the Catalan director and his prolific production, recognized both in our country and internationally, and to his outstanding role in the visibility of the LGBTIQ+ community in cinema.
With the support of Barcelona, this cash prize will go to the fiction feature film that has received the best rating among the FIRE Festival team!.

The award will be presented by the actor Enric Majó, on Sunday, June 14 at 8 p.m.
