Belgrade, 1993. Serbia is at war, people are having a hard time because of international sanctions and exorbitant inflation, but everyone is doing what they can to survive. Tired of replacing almonds with walnuts, butter with margarine and sex with masturbation, a group of friends looks for something real. Marijana throws a costume party for her daughter’s 8th birthday, Minja, with family and fellow parents attending. While Minja and her classmates are having a Ninja Turtles-themed party in the living room, the adults huddle in the kitchen, including a lesbian love triangle and a couple of boys, one of whom is Marijana’s brother. Marijana suddenly realizes that she longs for more than a bunch of drunken guests and an inattentive husband, so she sets out to discover the thrills the night has to offer. She sneaks out of the house strolling around the empty streets, seeking genuine experiences instead of mere substitutes. While she reaches an orgasm and smokes a cigarette with a stranger, the party slowly disperses, just like Yugoslavia, the country Marijana and her friends were all born in.
