The city of Barcelona has always been a benchmark in the conquest of LGTBIQ+ rights and paved the way for the rest of the territories in Spain. The documentary Barcelona out of the closet has been recorded with this idea as a starting point; it aims to publicize the various goals of the LGTBIQ+ movement in Barcelona and the evolution of this movement over the years. It shows the different milestones that have marked the LGTBIQ+ movement, such as the creation of the first association in the country, the Spanish Homosexual Liberation Movement (MEHL) or the first demonstration in favour of homosexual rights in 1977, which was held in Las Ramblas of Barcelona. It also shows the creation of the different entities that were born over the years and that have become benchmarks in Barcelona, such as the Gay Liberation Front of Catalonia, the Casal Lambda, the Observatory against Homophobia, the LGTBI Families, Gaylespol, the LGTBI Municipal Center or Trànsit, a public accompaniment service for transgender people, among others.
