The FIRE!! premieres a new award this year: the Ventura Pons Award for Best Feature Film! Endowed with 2,000 euros, with the collaboration of the Barcelona City Council, it wants to pay tribute to the great filmmaker Ventura Pons, who left us in 2024. An essential figure in Catalan cinema and LGBTIQ+ visibility in the audiovisual scene of our territory, since he directed the famous documentary Ocaña, intermittent portrait in 1977, his films have been screened at the biggest international festivals, including the Berlinale. Among his 33 films, Friend/Love, Eat Love, The Why Everything Happened and Anita Don’t Lose the Train also stand out. From this year onwards, we will dedicate the festival’s award for best fiction feature film to this essential figure of Catalan cinema.
