The gaze of Arab and Persian queer cinema

For a long time we wanted to dedicate our “gaze of…” in the so-called countries of the SWANA region (South West Asia and North Africa) and, when we decided last summer, we were far from imagining what a large part of this area of the world would be like today. The war is reshaping the power games while leaving millions of civilians in a situation of extreme invulnerability, including their LGBTIQ+ communities, perhaps more unprotected than ever. A particularly dramatic moment and no less important to vindicate the strength of its creativity when it comes to continuing to exist and continuing to be as visible as possible on the road to its social acceptance. In this sense, in addition to the extraordinary opening film, Bouchra, don’t miss The Crowd and the short sessions A Thousand and One Queer Stories and A Lebanese Evening with Hadi Moussally. In total, 25 stories, a good taste of the thousand and one that reflect the reality of these communities.
