Fede, who is in the midst of an existential crisis, has broken up with his boyfriend and taken a leave of his job to figure out what’s next. He spends his days in the park and runs into Iván, whom he recognizes from going to his house as a child, and who is also kind of blue. Fede insists they should provide each other company because even though their lives may seem unremarkable, they can still anticipate plenty of unexpected plot twists in the future. This encounter will turn both their lives upside down in totally unpredictable ways. With dashes of forgotten Meg Ryan movies of the 90s, classic Pedro Almodóvar humour, and Mondays in the Sun, Una película barata (A cheap film) takes us on a surprising journey where two guys a little out of their depth support each other, have fun and make each other feel good. Joyfully depressive and wildly inventive, this is the first feature film by Osama Chami, Spanish director, screenwriter and assistant director to… Pedro Almodóvar.
