Set in the late 80’s in Santiago de Chile, Tengo miedo torero narrates the encounter between “La loca del frente”, an old romantic transvestite living in a poor neighbourhood, and Carlos, an undercover Mexican guerrilla fighter. One night, the young rebel saves The Queen from the police and a special relationship full of heartache, justice and boleros flourishes. Carlos asks The Queen to store some boxes at her place, apparently filled with “forbidden books”, but what she doesn’t know is that inside are the weapons to assassinate the dictator Augusto Pinochet. Tengo miedo torero is based on the only fiction novel by the mythical Chilean writer, chronicler and artist Pedro Lemebel, a great reference in homosexual and rebellious literature, and one of the Chilean writers with the greatest international projection.
