Now You Are a Woman
Gerald Hayo is a Kenyan LBQ activist. She is a survivor of one of the most severe violent practices against lesbian women: corrective rape. This film portrays her daily life as an activist in Mombasa, where she lives and works with her girlfriend Deedee, and her return to Kisumu, the hometown from which she was disowned by her own family.
This is a story of survival, love, human complexity and the rise of LBQ women in the fight for their own rights in Kenya at a key moment when countries across Africa and the world are decriminalising homosexuality.
