During her life, Patricia Highsmith signed more than 22 novels, many of which were adapted for the big screen, the best known being Strangers on a Train, The Talented Mr. Ripley and Carol. The latter, a partly autobiographical novel, was the first lesbian story with a happy ending in the United States.
