Iran: “The Crowd” and “The Mould” – Sunday 14, 6pm
Despite a regime that abhors homosexuality and a conflict in which it has been left more unprotected than ever, the LGBTIQ+ collective in Iran fights for its visibility and sends to the world films as beautiful or striking as these two that we propose, examples of this look at Persian queer cinema. In the feature film The Crowd, Hamed, a young gay Iranian, shares a flat with his partner, Raman, who will emigrate soon. Hamed decides to hold a clandestine party for him in an empty warehouse that belongs to his family, but his path is full of conflicts. The medium-length film The Mould offers us a shocking story about masculinity and the erroneous expectations of a widowed father, who wants his teenage son with a delicate build, Morteza, to present himself as masculine and physically strong, and insists on continuing to raise him exactly according to his preferences.
