A trip to Asia with “The Queen of My Dreams” and “Cactus Pears”
Every year, with our East of Eden section, we make you discover the best LGTBIQ+ cinematography of the Asian continent. In addition to Queerpanorama, which we have previously mentioned, we invite you to discover The Queen of My Dreams and Cactus Pears.
In The Queen of My Dreams, the young Azra, Muslim and lesbian, studies acting and lives happily in Toronto with her girlfriend (white, non-Muslim) half a planet away from her mother, Miriam, a very religious woman. When her father dies unexpectedly, Azra returns to Pakistan, her homeland, and relives the memories of her childhood in Karachi. A luminous comedy about the complicated (and often ubiquitous) bonds between mothers and daughters.
Screening: Wednesday 11/06 – 22 h
In Cactus Pears, Anand has to spend ten days mourning the death of his father in a harsh rural area of western India. He feels overwhelmed by his sexual orientation, as revealing it to the whole family could distance his mother from her relatives when she needs them most. He finds solace in a childhood friend, Balya, whom he accompanies on daily outings to the mountains to herd goats.
Screening: Thursday 12/06 – 22 h
