The gaze of Argentine cinema with “Luces azules”, “300 cartas” and “Linda”
Mostra FIRE!! dedicates this year its section “The gaze of…” in Argentine cinema, with 7 films! (5 feature films and two short films). In addition to Theses on a Domestication and The Astronaut Lovers, which we have already told you about, don’t miss these three other Argentine gems: two by director Lucas Santa Ana, Blue Lights and 300 Letters, and Linda, by Mariana Wainstein.
Luces azules explores the dynamics of gay and lesbian relationships in a changing world: during the celebration of Alejandro’s 70th birthday, secrets come to light, emotions and conflicts awaken after many years and an unforgettable night will end up redefining the relationships of the guests.
Screening: Sunday 08/06, at 6 p.m. Presentation by Owen John Olden, director of Endimaris, Sitges’ LGTBIQ+ film festival.
300 cartas introduces us to Jero and Tom, both 25 years old and they are the perfect couple that everyone wants to be. Tom is more alternative and loves poetry. On the day of their first anniversary as boyfriends, Tom leaves Jero and, as the only explanation, leaves a box with 300 letters.
Screening: Sunday 08/06, at 10 p.m.
In Linda, we follow in the footsteps of a self-confident and captivating girl, Linda, who agrees to work in a wealthy house in Buenos Aires replacing her cousin. Her charm arouses a strong sexual attraction between the four members of the family, exposing the fragility of their apparent happiness. By focusing on female desire rather than sacrifice, Linda inverts the myth in a very skillful and particularly fascinating way.
Screenings: Friday 06/06 at 6 p.m., and Saturday 14/06 at 6 p.m.
