Second session of shorts at the LGTBI Centre

On Thursday the 13th, at 6pm, the screening of fabulous documentary Making Montgomery Clift will be preceded by the short film Nacho no conduce, with Antonio Araque and Ingrid García-Jonsson. A meeting with Gerald Hayo and Alba Muñoz (Now You are a Woman)

Monday the 10th at 8 pm, come to meet Gerald Hayo and Alba Muñoz, protagonist and Director of documentary Now You Are a Woman. Gerald, a Kenyan LBQ activis, is a survivor of one of the most severe violent practices against lesbian women: corrective rape. This film portrays her daily life as an activist in Mombasa, where she lives and works with her girlfriend Deedee. This is a story of survival, love, and the rise of LBQ women in Africa. First educational program for Schools at FIRE!!

For the first time, our educational program will be for schools, with two screenings at 10 am. One of shorts and spots on Wednesday the 12th, and another with the documentary Out, by Denis Parrot on Thursday the 13th. Festival opening on Thursday the 6th with Kanarie!

Set in South Africa in 1985 against a backdrop of apartheid, religion, and war, Kanarie follows a teen boy, Johan Niemand, after he gets called on by the military and auditions for the “Canaries” (the South African Defence Force Church Choir and Concert Group). On tour, he develops feelings for a fellow Canary and he starts to question everything he knows about himself, leading to a confrontation with his commanding officers. Kanarie is a love story. A film about finding individuality in a world of oppression and uniformity. More info here.

A meeting with traveller and Youtuber Enrique Àlex

Enrique Álex has spent the last three years travelling around the with his boyfriend; he recounts his experiences on an extraordinary YouTube channel that has won hundreds of thousands of followers. Enrique has no doubts: this is a way of fighting against prejudice and homophobia! He will demonstrate all this on June the 4th at 7 pm, at the “Espacio B The Travel Brand XPerience”, showing a few videos before talking with the audience about something very close to our heart at FIRE!!: the value of video as a tool to break down barriers and combat prejudice. The TransArtCabaret retorns with two sessions, on Saturday, June the 1st (8pm) and Sunday the 2nd (6pm), this time at the Espai Francesca Bonnemaison. A show enabling us to discover, promote and celebrate trans diversity. Featuring also artists such as Arid, Elena Sánchez, Eloi Martín, Elsa Ruiz, o Que no salga de aquí.
